Lindos
Three of the most popular churches in Lindos have been selected for their idyllic location
overlooking St Paul's Bay and Lindos Bay.
 t Paul's Church
St Paul's Bay with its deep blue water, small
sandy beach and enclosing rocky cliffs provides
a setting of timeless serenity.
The bay is
overlooked by the village of Lindos and its
towering Acropolis. Panoramic views of the
cavernous headland on which the Acropolis
is built lend an air of majesty to the proceedings.
Local legend tells us that St Paul the apostle,
landed at the bay in miraculous circumstances
in 58 A.D. The ship carrying St Paul from the
island of Lesbos to the Middle East was almost shipwrecked on the rocks when caught in a
dangerous storm but managed to manoeuvre
into the bay to take shelter. |

The bay was subsequently named after him. St Paul's day is celebrated every year on the
evening of 28th June when there is music, dancing and refreshments at the bay, a very
special day in Lindos. |

t George's Church
Like all the churches within Lindos, St George’s
survives from the medieval era.
Located on one of the beach roads, it faces
the sea with great views of Lindos Bay. The
pretty whitewashed church stands within a
walled area with steps leading to an open
courtyard that surrounds the building.
Typically a 'cross-in square' style church with a
dome, St George’s was built and decorated by
a priest and his wife in 1394/95 according to the
inscription on the southern side of the apse front.
This is a perfect spot for couples who would like
to marry within the village itself. |

t Dimitrios Church
Located just above the stone path leading to
the Acropolis, this quaint little church is ideal
for intimate weddings, with wonderful views of
Lindos Bay on one side and the Acropolis on
the other.
St Dimitrios is next to the small, delightfully
deluxe Melenos Hotel, perfect for post-wedding
refreshments.

The Ceremony
All ceremonies performed are Civil Ceremonies, as the ceremony is relatively short
(approximately 4 minutes) you might like to consider exchanging personal vows to one
another, which can then be included in your ceremony or alternatively one of your wedding
party may like to say a poem or a reading.
By Special Request
The Registrar of Lindos is happy to conduct ceremonies in surrounding areas or hotels.
If you have a favourite local spot for your wedding ceremony this could be arranged.
Please Note
* All wedding ceremonies at St Paul’s Bay will have 45 minutes private
time in the grounds of the church
* Two witnesses are required for the signing of the registrar
(minimum age 13 yrs)
